BNLD – A professional society for natural scientists
What is the BNLD?
The BNLD (Berufsvereinigung der Naturwissenschaftler in der Labordiagnostik) was founded in 1993 in
order to represent the professional interests of natural scientists working in clinical diagnostic laboratories
– for example clinical chemistry and chemical pathology. The BNLD represents its members both
nationally and internationally, as well as promoting educational activities.
What are our aims?
The main aim of the BNLD is to create equal chances and opportunities in the field of clinical diagnostic
laboratories for all those with natural science or medical degrees. The BNLD also supports further
education offered by the respective professional societies in the interests of continual interdisciplinary cooperation.
How do we achieve our aims?
The BNLD plays an active role in co-operation with legislative bodies, local and national authorities and
medical insurance companies in order to offer advice of an objective and professional nature in the
formulation of political decisions and preparation of directives and similar documents. The emphasis here
is to influence decisions on all future policy concerning laboratory testing. The BNLD is, for example, a
member of the DDG (German Diagnostica Group representing in-vitro industrial producers amongst other
things) and the GCCLS (German Society for Clinical Laboratory Standards).
The BNLD arranges regular educational courses on professionally and politically relevant subjects. BNLD
activities are published regularly in "Clinical Laboratory", which is cited in databases such as Current
Contents and Excerpta Medica.
